James has been performing his story-telling style of comedy at Take Out Comedy since 2007 and has opened for Paul Ogata, Butch Bradley, and other visiting comics. James performed in Manila, Philippines with the local comedy group the Comedy Cartel in a charity show to raise money for local children. He was also a finalist in the 2010 Hong Kong International Comedy Festival.
