Biography

Smita’s always been making people laugh. But since she met Jami Gong and TakeOut Comedy in 2009, the focus has been on having people laugh with her more than at her. On stage Smita likes to draw on her life in Hong Kong and Singapore, the trials of being a dedicated leaf eater (yum! boiled cabbage!?), the extreme awkwardness of corporate life, female troubles, dealing with people (ugh) and whatever else happened to her that week.

Jokes aside, Smita has nothing else going for her. In addition to standup, she’s written a few songs that people have laughed at. The most famous one being the annoyingly catchy and extremely morbid “Mini-bus”. She is currently trying to become educated, is occasionally employed in the corporate world, and is secretly a sucker for prize-winning books.

Smita is a regular performer at TakeOut Comedy Hong Kong. She’s been one of the featured comedians in the very successful Karma Komedians series, and has opened for visiting comedians Bernadette Pauley, Amy Andersen, Paul Ogata and Butch Bradley.
