Biography

Pete Grella moved to Hong Kong from New York City 4 years ago and hasn’t looked back! Mainly because he pinched a nerve and can’t move his neck very well… he does turn his body around on occasion, though, to gaze in the direction of NYC.

Pete has always enjoyed being creative and making people laugh, but let things like work get in the way of trying comedy. All of that changed in the spring of 2007 when he took Jami Gong’s stand up workshop at TakeOut Comedy. But tragedy struck again in the form of work (and just being a big chicken), and he never took to stage. Until March of 2009.

That was when Pete took an improv comedy course at TakeOut and started performing regularly with the People’s Liberation Improv. He has been performing with them every month since then, and has also been in a couple of special PLI shows in Macau and in front of over 2,000 people at an outdoor festival in Discovery Bay.

Stand up was not far behind and he made his official stand up debut in September 2009. Since then, Pete has been performing regularly at TakeOut Comedy and has even headlined a few shows. He participated in the 3rd Annual Hong Kong International Comedy Competition and he attended the finals of that competition (critics say that he was an excellent audience member.)

In addition to stand up and improv, Pete has also been writing for and performing in Comedy Dim Sum, the first English and Cantonese variety show in Hong Kong at TakeOut Comedy.

When he’s not performing (or working his day job), Pete has been known to live on an abandoned oil drilling platform in the North Sea raising sea monkeys.
