Biography

Umar Rana is Singapore’s only Pakistani Stand-up Comedian!

Umar has performed live in Singapore, Hong Kong and Pakistan and is quickly establishing himself as a leading stand-up act in Singapore.

Umar made his debut in Stand-up Comedy in May 2009, and performs regularly in TakeOut Comedy’s Weekly Open Mics. After just four months of his debut in stand-up comedy, Umar entered the 3rd Annual Hong Kong International Comedy Competition, where he placed 3rd out of 30 International Comedians. Umar uses his Pakistani Origin, his Muslim upbringing and his dual citizenship with the United States to spin a sarcastic and funny take on terrorism and cultural diversity.

Umar began his entertainment career in Pakistan and was a founding member of Black Fish, Pakistan’s first and highly acclaimed English Speaking Improvisational Comedy Troupe in 2001. Black Fish attained cult status and performed weekly to packed audiences for over 3 years, and the troupe toured across major cities regularly. Black Fish gained such popularity that it was chosen by The British Council to represent Pakistan in “Contacting the World”, an international Theater Project at The Contact Theater in Manchester, England.

In 2009 Umar returned to improv and also joined The Singapore Madhatters Comedy Company. He’s an active member and continues to perform with them.
